BIOE 215
This course introduces students into the complex and broad field of bioengineering. Freshman year, when people asked what my intended major was, I simply replied, 'bioengineering' without much understanding of why. After completing the course, I have a better idea of what the field encompasses (which is an extremely wide range of areas an applications) and why I would enjoy working in the field. Throughout the quarter, there were five assignments, which allowed us to practice the engineering design process. At the end, we applied the skills in a group project with a global health problem of our choice. Though at times tedious and difficult, the assignments were enjoyable. Hours spent researching about problems in cancer detection, types of heart valves, ethical issues, and diabetes were tiring but exciting.
Below is the presentation my group (Members: Philip Lee, Tiffany Ohlsen, Runyuan Jason Chen, and myself) made and the final paper of our project.
