English 131
Hi! Welcome to my online portfolio for English 131. It compiles, summarizes, and analyzes the papers I have written this quarter. This quarter, our class has considered two main topics: languages (specifically the conflict between modes of Englishes) and the issue of heroification. The short assignments and major papers in the portfolio reflect not only the readings that we discussed in class but also my own views on the topics. With each paper and prompt, I was challenged to find how to integrate my opinion with the readings and evidence while satisfying the qualities of a good writing outlined by the four outcomes.
Throughout the quarter, four outcomes were evaluated for each assignment. Each outcome targets a necessary skill for writing: 1) ability to tailor one's writing for a specific purpose, genre, and/or audience; 2) ability to strategically, effectively, and efficiently incorporate a variety of other sources and evidence to further one's writing; 3) ability to produce a well-articulated complex, analytic, persuasive argument; and 4) ability to successfully revise, edit, and proofread own work. Prior to this class, I was aware of most of the skills. However, through this class, I was able to re-evaluate what a true claim is, the difference between revision, editing, and proofreading is, and the variety of voices that one can use to express oneself is.
A page is dedicated to each of the four outcomes. For each outcome, I have analyzed appropriate papers, indicated where and how my papers meet the targets, and reflected on how successful the paper is at satisfying the outcomes. It is followed by my final reflection of not only the papers and my writing but also the class as a whole. You can also find download links to all of my papers in the 'Compendium of Work' page. I hope you enjoy reading my work!
